William Inge Bronze Commission
In January of 2013 we were commissioned to create two larger than life bronze statues for The William Inge Memorial, at Riverside Park in Independence, Kansas. The two figures are Turk and Marie, characters from the William Inge play “Come Back, Little Sheba”.
The sculpture depicts a moment in the play that at the time was somewhat scandalous. Marie, a college art student, has invited her college boyfriend, Turk, who is a track star over to her boarding house so that she can draw him for a track meet poster. They are behind closed doors and Turk is wearing only his track suit and posing as if he is throwing the javelin.
The sculptures were installed in late March 2014, and the unveiling happened in conjunction with the William Inge Theatre Festival. It was a great project, we were honored to be involved.
