Marcus Aurelius was a true philosopher king. During the time he wrote his personal diary, now titled Meditations, he was the most powerful man in the world. And yet, in Meditations he constantly reminds himself to be humble and patient with the citizens of Rome. Rarely in history has there been quite an example of a man so reluctant to abuse his unlimited authority.

I sculpted this bust in collaboration with Ryan Holiday and the Daily Stoic. The modern resurgence in Stoic Philosophy, led by Ryan Holiday, Tim Ferris, William Irvine, Sharon Lebell and others, has significantly improved my daily life, encouraging me, among other things, to focus on only that which I can control.

I was inspired to create these stoic portraits for myself as as high quality reminder to live the life that I have decided that I want to live.

“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.” Marcus Aurelius
